Our Logo

The logo of the Historical Institute was designed by Simon Retzmann. He writes: “The logo consists of the figurative mark HIBO and, depending on its use, also the word mark HISTORISCHES INSTITUT BOCHUM. Both are in the Ruhr-Universität Bochum font to enable effective use in conjunction with the corporate design. An integral part of the logo is also the I, conceived as a stylized book spine to create a relationship to “history”. The logo is generally kept very simple and modern in order to avoid any “clichéd historical” representation (papyrus script, document as logo, etc.) and to capture the individual epochs or chairs as a whole, i.e. as a modern historical institute. The simple design therefore also makes it possible to use any color and size variants and thus to use it flexibly for print and web media.”

The logo can be downloaded from here as an image or figurative wordmark as a vector graphic (.png) and used by members and affiliates of the Institute. Copyright: Simon Retzmann
